Nick & Alex Vaughan were keen on the idea of a residency at Spurn Point the first time they read about the opportunity. Visiting the Point in August 2017 made them fall in love with the place and embrace the project with all their heart. With the centenary of the end of WWI happening in 2018, it felt right to shape the residency around the theme and make it a celebration of Peace.

Nicholas Vaughan was born in Northampton, England. After receiving his degree in Sculpture from Wolverhampton University he moved to London where he studied for an MA at Chelsea College of Art and Design. His work has been shown extensively in group shows throughout Europe, including at The Corner House Gallery in Manchester and Imperial College in London.
2017 saw projects from the last few years, inspired by his maternal grandfather’s Polish origins, come to a conclusion with a two weeks solo show at Czytelnia Sztuki, a gallery part of the Museum of Gliwice, in Poland. He currently lives and works in London.

Alexandra Vaughan was born in Lisbon, Portugal. She grew up in Porto and moved to London in 2006. She holds a degree in Heritage Management from the Universidade Portucalense and has more recently decided to pursue her love of bread and train to be a Baker. She has attended several small workshops as well as shifts at bakeries and runs a microbakery from home, baking to order once a week. Alex teaches bread baking both from home and at Community projects in her neighbourhood. You can check what she’s up to in the world of bread here.
